Mommy’s Comments:

The Discovery Ant Gel Habitat is currently $19.95 at the Discovery Channel Store. We have really enjoyed it. The “Space Gel” Habitat is realy easy to see through, so all the actions the ants make are visible. You can even see their mandibles taking bits out of the gel to make the tunnels. I even found myself watching the ants even when J was not around. Amazing creatures (in a habitat other than the house )

We ordered the ants from the suggested website, for $3.95 including shipping. There was supposed to be a free coupon for the Ants but I couldn’t figure it out, maybe you will have better luck. The ants arrived withing 2-3 days and most were still alive. (We ordered during the summer months.) My suggestion is to be ready to move really fast to shake the ants into the habitat. I just held it above the opening and thought they would fall out, but they started to climb around the outside of the container and creap towards my fingers, so I droped the whole tube into the ant farm habitat and had to try at get it out later with tweezers so avoid the trouble by immediatly shaking hard directly into the habitat when the tube is opened.

We have enjoyed the ant farm. The information said the ants would last 6 weeks, but it has been almost 7 weeks and most of the ants are still alive.

Care is easy as you only need to open the top for the ants to get fresh air once a week…that’s it. Easiest pets we have ever owned.
